Culture

The very philosophical explanation of culture on the left starts to pick at why culture is such a touchy subject in advertising. The key word is stereotypes or stereotyping against others. You rarely see now a blunt representation of one country that is offensive in any way. Many cultures laugh at their own stereotype but in reality, if they did look at themselves in the proverbial mirror they would see what they are or who they are to others.

Unfortunately, most kids know the 'golden arches' better!
But of course culture is not just religion or nationality it can be much more specific looking in to how people live their lives. For example, the drinking culture of university students is a huge target market for breweries to market to.

Here is an advert from a completely different lifetime where brightly coloured clothes worn by everyone was the fashion and the internet was a new concept that Natwest were trying to incorporate into their business.

HSBC are without the doubt the connoisseurs of managing every culture and using it to their advantage in gaining customers.

This blog represents different cultures through what music people listen to and how the music has affected them and their decisions. The thing is with rap or heavy metal music is that you can not stop it being played because teenagers are far more independent that say 30 years ago and have far more ways of accessing the music they love.
